OTTAWA, October 4, 2018 –Members of the Independent Senators Group (ISG) have adopted
their first Charter. It marks an important step in the evolution of the group, which is currently the largest in the Senate.
The Charter outlines the raison d’être of the ISG, whose members have joined together for the purpose of affirming and protecting each senator’s freedom to vote as he or she sees fit, and for the purpose of sharing expertise, pooling resources, and providing mutual support.
“The Charter is an important milestone not just for the ISG, but for the modernization of the Senate as a whole,” said Senator Yuen Pau Woo (BC), Facilitator of the ISG.

Established in 2016, The Independent Senators Group (ISG) is committed to a non-partisan Senate and the modernization of the Upper House of Canada’s Parliament. With 47 members, the ISG is the largest parliamentary group in the Senate. Composed of independents not affiliated with any political caucus, ISG Senators work cooperatively but act independently.
