Senator Bernadette Clement Joins Independent Senators Group
OTTAWA, October 6, 2021 - Senator Bernadette Clement (ON) announced today that she will be joining the Independent Senators Group (ISG).
“My priority has always been to build relationships as I believe this is how we make progress and create inclusive outcomes. After many conversations with interesting and passionate senators, I am eager to collaborate across groups to honour the important role of the Senate, with an abiding love for our country as our most significant guidance.” - Senator Bernadette Clement on joining the Independent Senators Group.
“In addition to breaking barriers, serving as the first Black female Mayor in Ontario, Senator Bernadette Clement has had an extensive legal career devoted to representing workers and those who are underprivileged in our society. Most recently having served as the Mayor of Cornwall, Ontario, she brings a unique set of skills focused on the public. We are delighted to be a part of the important work that she will do in the Senate of Canada.” - Senator Yuen Pau Woo, Facilitator of the Independent Senators Group.
Senator Clement was nominated to the Senate on June 22, 2021, through the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments. Her addition to the Independent Senators Group brings the total membership to 42.
