Senator Suze Youance Joins the Independent Senators Group



OTTAWA, November 27, 2024 – Senator Suze Youance (Quebec – Lauzon) announced today she is joining the Independent Senators Group (ISG). Senator Youance is an accomplished civil engineer with over 25 years of experience in engineering, teaching, and research. Before immigrating to Canada in 2006, Senator Youance supported Canadian aid initiatives in Haiti by working on environmental and engineering projects. In addition to her work on various non-profit organizations, she has long volunteered to promote women in scientific and engineering professions, including her time as the President of the Scientific Council of the UNESCO Chair "Women and Sciences for Development" in Haiti. Senator Youance is the recipient of many coveted accolades, including the Mathieu Da Costa Award from the Black Coalition of Quebec and the Casimir Gzowski gold medal from the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering.

Senator Suze Youance was nominated to the Senate on September 25, 2024. Her addition to the Independent Senators Group brings the total membership to 42.
